facts about eating healthy

80% of obese children age 10-15 years old become obese adults
at 24 years old.
7

Although eating behavior is influenced by a combination of one's thoughts,
behaviors, genetic, and cultural factors, teens still have a choice on ways
to maintain a healthy weight.
8

Poor nutrition is a major cause of many chronic diseases.
9

The Mayo Clinic confirms that weight gain often occurs because a person
is eating more calories than they are using through physical activity.

The Center for Disease Control and Prevention states that nutrition interventions
are more effective when paired with exercise programs.

The CDC also states that nearly 80% of children and teens do not get the recommended
amount of fruits and vegetables in their diets.

The National Center for Chronic Disease Prevention and Health Promotion found that in 2007,
only 21.4% of teens reported eating the daily recommended of 5 or more fruits and vegetables a day.

Family and peers influence eating habits and the ability to maintain healthy weight. Therefore
collaborating with them to focus on healthy eating can contribute to positive outcomes. 10
